A First Birthday – No Cake Required
For Baby J’s milestone session, we decided to skip the traditional cake smash and focus on something a little more timeless.
And honestly? It was perfect.
At one year old, Baby J is full of curiosity. He’s on the move and showing off that adorable determination that comes with new independence.
Big Sibling Energy
One of my favourite parts of this session was including his older siblings. Watching them interact with Baby J was such a full-circle moment for me. I still remember photographing them when they were small.
Why I Love Non-Cake Smash Sessions
While cake smashes are fun, there’s something timeless about keeping a first birthday session simple. Without the distraction of cake and decorations, the focus stays exactly where it should be — on connection, personality, and family.
This session felt relaxed and natural. We incorporated soft neutrals, classic textures, and plenty of snuggles. The result? Images that will look just as beautiful on their walls in twenty years as they do today.
Growing With My Families
As a photographer, there is no greater honour than being invited back year after year. Photographing Baby J’s older siblings when they were small and now capturing their baby brother at the same milestone reminds me why I love what I do.
These aren’t just photo sessions.
They’re chapters.
Watching families grow, seeing siblings become mentors, and documenting those fleeting first-year expressions — it’s something I never take for granted.
