M’s Pretty Floral First Birthday Cake Smash

It was so lovely to welcome little M back to the studio for her first birthday cake smash! I first met M when she was a tiny newborn, and I’ve also had the pleasure of photographing her big brother, so it was extra special to see her again and capture this next milestone.

For M’s session, we created a beautiful floral-inspired set filled with pretty blooms and delicate details. Mum had also brought along the most gorgeous selection of dresses, giving us lots of beautiful options to complement the flower theme perfectly.

M certainly kept us on our toes! At this age, being away from Mum and sitting on the floor in a new environment can feel like a big ask, so we worked hard together to keep her happy, settled and engaged. With a little patience, plenty of encouragement and lots of help from Mum, we managed to capture some really precious moments of her first birthday.

And while M wasn’t entirely convinced that the cake was the most exciting part of the session, she certainly gave us some adorable expressions along the way!

One of the things I love most about photographing babies as they grow is seeing how much their personalities develop. From that tiny newborn I photographed a year ago to the gorgeous little girl sitting amongst the flowers today, it really does feel like no time has passed at all.

It’s such a privilege when families return to me for their children’s milestones, and being able to photograph both M and her big brother makes this family particularly special to me.

Despite keeping us all working hard behind the scenes, we captured some beautiful memories of M turning one — and I think her gorgeous floral photographs are a wonderful way to remember this special stage of her little life. ♡
